How much does bespoke furniture cost compared to off-the-shelf?
Bespoke furniture costs more upfront but is built to last decades, not years. A bespoke sofa from ZEBA is made to your exact dimensions, in your choice of fabric and fill, with a quality of construction that mass-market furniture cannot match. Most clients consider it an investment rather than a purchase.
How long does it take to make bespoke furniture?
Most bespoke upholstery pieces take 6 to 10 weeks from order to delivery. Custom headboards take 4 to 6 weeks. Handcrafted rugs typically take 8 to 16 weeks depending on complexity.
Can I bring my own fabric?
Yes. We can upholster in your own fabric, provided it meets the performance requirements for the piece. We will advise on suitability before we begin.
Do you offer reupholstery as well as new pieces?
Yes. Reupholstery is one of the most sustainable choices you can make. We restore and reupholster all types of furniture and can often match existing frames with new fabric and filling to bring them back to better than new.
What is a Martindale rub count and why does it matter?
Martindale is the standard test for fabric durability. It measures how many times a fabric can be rubbed before showing wear. Domestic upholstery typically needs 15,000 to 25,000 rubs; commercial use requires 30,000 or more. We specify fabrics appropriate to your exact use.
What is the difference between bespoke, made to measure and made to order furniture?
Made to order means a fixed design built when you order, usually with a choice of fabric. Made to measure means an existing design adjusted to your dimensions. Bespoke means the piece is designed or specified for your room and the way you live, with proportions, filling and fabric all decided for you. The words are not regulated, so always ask a maker what they mean.
How much does a bespoke sofa cost in the UK?
A bespoke three seater sofa made in the UK typically costs between about £3,000 and £10,000 in 2026, depending on the frame, springing, filling, fabric and the hours of making. Fabric alone can be a fifth to a third of the price. Every ZEBA piece is priced to its specification, and our consultation is free.
Do you make bespoke furniture for clients outside Yorkshire?
Yes. We make and deliver bespoke furniture across the UK, including Leeds, Bradford, Harrogate, Manchester, London, Oxford, Edinburgh and Glasgow. Because every piece is specified in detail before making begins, the quality does not change with the distance. Visiting the Shipley studio helps but is not essential.
