From our studio in Shipley, the Yorkshire Golden Triangle is on our doorstep, and it is where a great deal of our finest residential work is made. If you are planning a luxury interior in Harrogate, Wetherby, Ilkley or the affluent suburbs of north Leeds, this is a guide to how we design and make bespoke interiors for homes across the region, and why working with a local studio that also makes matters so much at this level.
What and Where the Yorkshire Golden Triangle Is
The Yorkshire Golden Triangle is the affluent area roughly bounded by Harrogate to the north, Wetherby to the east and north Leeds to the south. It takes in some of the most sought after addresses in the county: Harrogate's leafy Duchy estate and Fulwith Mill Lane, where average house prices reach around £1.7 million; the market town of Wetherby, where homes sell at a significant premium to the regional average; the Wharfedale villages of Bramhope and Pool-in-Wharfedale; the spa town of Ilkley; and the established Leeds suburbs of Alwoodley, Roundhay and Adel.
What these places share is a concentration of substantial, individual homes owned by people who care about how they live. That is precisely the kind of home, and the kind of client, our studio is set up to serve.
Designing for Golden Triangle Homes
The properties across this part of Yorkshire are unusually varied, and that variety is part of what keeps the work interesting.
In Harrogate and Ilkley, much of our residential work is in handsome Victorian and Edwardian villas, and in substantial period houses where the architecture deserves an interior of the same standard. Around Wetherby, Boston Spa and the Wharfedale villages, the brief is often a large family home or a country property. In north Leeds, from Alwoodley to Roundhay, we work on established detached homes and newer high specification builds where owners want an interior that feels personal rather than developer standard.
A luxury interior should respond to the house and its setting rather than impose a single look. A stone built home near Ilkley asks for something different from a contemporary build outside Wetherby. Designing locally means we can visit easily, take proper measurements, see the light at different times of day, and understand the context before we specify anything. You can read more about our approach in our guide to bespoke luxury interior design in West Yorkshire.
Why a Local Studio and Maker Matters Here
A great deal of interior design is project managed from a distance, with furniture ordered from suppliers and soft furnishings outsourced. That can work, but it puts layers between the design and the making, and every layer is a place where intent gets lost.
We are based at Unit 2, 202 Market Street in Shipley, a short drive from every corner of the Golden Triangle, and we have our own making capability. Curtains are cut and made up to our brief. Upholstered pieces are built to specifications we write ourselves, in fabrics chosen with you. Because the studio and the workshop are close, we can inspect, adjust and stand behind the quality in a way that is far harder when production sits overseas or with an anonymous third party.
For you, the practical benefits are real: shorter lines of communication, the ability to visit and handle materials at scale, honest lead times, and a maker close enough that, years later, a piece can be reupholstered or restored rather than replaced. Explore our residential design and bespoke furniture services to see how this works in practice.
The Fabric Library
Clients who visit our Shipley studio almost always comment on the fabric library. We carry an extensive range from leading UK and European houses, across every weight, texture and performance grade.
The reason we encourage an in person visit is straightforward. A fabric chosen from a small sample or a screen is frequently regretted. The way a cloth moves, the way it takes the light, the way it sits against the other materials in a scheme, these things need scale and context to judge. For clients in Harrogate, Wetherby or north Leeds, the studio is close enough to make a proper visit easy.
How a Project Usually Runs
Most of our residential projects follow a similar shape. We begin with a conversation, ideally at your home or in our studio, to understand the brief, the budget and the way you live. We develop a scheme, select materials together, and agree specifications and timelines clearly before anything is confirmed. Then we make, install and see the project through to completion.
We work best when we are involved early, because decisions about furniture, window treatments and soft furnishings interact with decisions about flooring, lighting and wall finishes. It is far easier to coordinate these before installation than to work around choices already made.
Beyond the Triangle
While the Golden Triangle is close to home, our work does not stop at its edges. We design for period homes in York, for properties across the wider regions we cover, and for clients throughout England and Scotland. The quality of the work does not change with the distance, because every piece is specified in detail before making begins.
